Wizards of Waverly Place is a Disney Channel Original Series that premiered on October 12th, 2007. The series focuses on the three Russo children who seem like any other normal kids, but in reality, they are wizards in training. The siblings are pitted against one another to prove who is the best wizard. Whichever sibling wins the magic tournament will get to keep their powers as an adult. Wizards of Waverly Place was a hit, and the show will be returning for a second season in the fall of 2008.

The main character of the show is Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez) and focuses on the rivalry between her and her two brothers Justin and Max. The kids live with their father, Jerry, and their mother, Theresa. Jerry was a wizard as a child and was able to keep his powers as he proved to be better than his older brother. Unfortunately for Jerry, wizards cannot marry people who aren't wizards, and he was forced to give up his powers in order to marry Theresa.

Alex, Jerry, and Max are only supposed to use magic when being supervised. However, Alex tends to take matters into her own hands, using magic at times she sees fit, which causes her to get into a lot of trouble.

When the three children reach adulthood, they will be forced to compete to see who will be the lifelong wizard.
Cast
Selena Gomez as Alex Russo: a young wizard in training. She is the middle child and the only girl, often being overshadowed in school and in wizard training by her brother, Justin. She is a trouble-maker (including making everyone forget Justin and letting Justin's dog loose) and often tries to skip her wizard training. She is often grounded at times for using magic without permission.
David Henrie as Justin Russo:the eldest Russo child. He's smart, loves school, and enjoys sports; he is a fan of the Mets and the Jets. He is not popular, and Harper (Alex's best friend) has a crush on him. He knows more about magic than his younger siblings, he often gets mixed up with Alex's crazy spells, he's a horrible rhymer in spells, and he resembles his Uncle Ernesto.
Jake T. Austin as Max Russo: the youngest in the family. He will do anything Alex tells him to do for a pair of new sneakers. (Such as convince Dad that Alex's double is really Alex.) He is not that smart in school or Wizard Training, often doing unpredictible things, and sometimes gets in trouble.
