of the tale, Selena Gomez portrays Mary, a young girl who lives with her step-mother and step-sisters (Britt and Bree). Mary is an excellent dancer and meets Joey Parker (a singer played by Drew Seeley) at the masquerade ball. Just like in the classic, the two dance and immediately fall in love.

While rushing out, Mary drops her iPod. Though Joey has no idea who the young woman is, he is determined to find her and get to know the woman behind the mask. In order to find her, Joey decides to hold a dance competition. Mary's friend Tami convinces her to enter the contest, because she knows that she has previously danced with Joey. Mary also believes that she fell in love with Joey during that first dance and would like to see him again.

The winner of the dance competition will have the opportunity to appear in Joey's (J.P.) new music video. Joey's goal is to meet the girl he fell in love with at the masquerade ball by dancing with every girl until he finds her.
